Start of the Day

Children will exit their taxis at 9:00 and go to their classroom via the playground gate.

Assemblies

Monday – Singing assembly in the hall

Tuesday – School assembly – (Focus on events and school values)

Friday – Celebration assembly

(On days we don’t have a formal assembly, we will take part in circle time in class.)

Lunch Time

11.30 am - 12.30 pm

End of the day

Monday – Thursday: 15:20

Friday: 14:20

Spelling

Our spelling test takes place every Tuesday. Please encourage your child to practise their spellings as much as they can in time for Tuesday’s test. Don’t forget, children can log on to SpellingFrame for fun spelling games and activities.

Reading Books

Children are expected to read every night. We use Boom Reader and you will receive log in details at the start of the term so that you can log all home reading online.

Lunches and Water Bottles

We ask children each day to bring in to school a water bottle of their own with fresh water inside. Children have access to their bottles throughout the day, and they will be sent home at the end of the day to be cleaned.

Each week, we will ask children to select what they would like for their lunch. Lunch choices can be accessed on the school page on Class Dojo.

PE

Children will take part in P.E lessons each week on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. On these days, please ensure that your child comes to school wearing their P.E kit.

P.E kit should include:

  • A white T-shirt
  • Navy Blue shorts or tracksuit bottoms
  • Plimsolls or trainers (depending on whether P.E is indoor or outdoor)

Swimming

As part of the PE curriculum, all classes will attend swimming lessons at Stevenage Swimming Centre for one term.

(You will be informed when your child's class will be swimming.)

Literacy - Mythical Creatures

This term, through talk for writing, children will be learning how to write factual texts about mythical creatures. They will research features such as appearance, habitat, and behaviour, then present their ideas in the style of an information text, combining creativity with non- fiction writing skills.

Maths - White Rose Curriculum

In maths, we will be following the White Rose curriculum. This term, children will focus on place value, addition and subtraction, and begin to build strategies for multiplying and dividing. Alongside this, we will strengthen mental maths skills through number bonds, times tables, and place value practice.

Science

We LOVE science in Year 5! We ensure that most of our lessons have a practical focus to inspire a lifelong love of science in the future innovators, entrepreneurs and scientists among us.

This term in Year 5 we will be focussing on Earth and Space, and in particular the solar system and day and night.

Knowledge of the World

We believe it is important to understand and respect different faiths. This term, we will be learning all about Rules for living – the 10 commandments.

French

Modern languages are vital in today’s global world! In French, our class will be learning ‘Getting to know you’ which develops talking about themselves.

Computing

It’s a digital world! Throughout Autumn term, our focus will be on communicating using spreadsheets using Purple Mash. We will have a visit from the PSCO about internet safety.

History – The Tudors

Exploring life in Tudor times, famous monarchs, and how the period shaped the world we live in today.

Geography – Using Maps

Learning how to read maps, use compasses, and understand symbols and keys.

Music

We have a dedicated music teacher and our lesson is every Tuesday. This Term our focus is on developing foundational skills in pitch, pulse, and performance using the glockenspiel.

PSHE

We will be learning about empathy using role play and online learning.
