Daily Routine

Start of the Day

Children will exit their taxis at 9:00 am and go to their classroom via the playground gate.

Assemblies  

  • Wednesday – Singing assembly in the hall
  • Tuesday – School assembly – (Focus on events and school values)
  • Friday – Celebration assembly in the hall

On days we don’t have a formal assembly, we will take part in circle time/behaviour curriculum in class.

Lunch Time

12.00 pm – 1:00 pm

Key Information

Spelling

We do not have a formal, weekly spelling test yet. Instead, on a Friday we revisit any phonemes taught throughout the week, with children completing an activity covering these sounds. Please encourage your child to practise their phonics as much as they can in their reading or with online programs at home. Children can long on to TeachYourMonster to practice their phonics skills and SpellingFrame for fun spelling games and activities.  

Reading Books

Children are expected to read every night. We use Boom Reader and you will receive log in details at the start of the term so that you can log all home reading online using BoomHub 

Lunches and Water Bottles

We ask that children bring a named water bottle to school each day, filled with fresh water. Children will have access to their bottles throughout the day, and bottles will be sent home at the end of each day to be cleaned. 

Each week, Children will be asked to select their lunch options from sandwiches, Jacket potatoes or hot meals.

PE  

Children will take part in P.E lessons each week on Tuesday and Wednesday’s. On these days, please ensure that your child comes to school wearing their P.E kit.  

P.E kit should include: 

  • A white T-shirt 
  • Navy Blue shorts or tracksuit bottoms 
  • Plimsolls or trainers (depending on whether P.E is indoor or outdoor) 

Subject Areas

English – Familiar Stories

This term, through Talk for Writing, children will split their learning into two focused half terms: the first half term will be dedicated to known story writing, where they will explore key features such as characters, setting and action; the second half term will centre on newspaper recounts, with children researching report features using the internet and school library books. By the end of the term, children will have created their own stories based around the original text, and written recounts where they will explore key skills including chronological order and time connectives.

Maths – White Rose Curriculum

In maths, we will be following the White Rose curriculum. This term, children will focus on place value, addition and subtraction, and begin to build strategies for multiplying and dividing. Alongside this, we will strengthen mental maths skills through number bonds, times tables, and place value practice.

Science

Science in Key Stage 1 is exciting and hands on. This term in Key stage 1, we will begin by focusing on Everyday Materials, investigating uses for different materials, classifying materials and beginning to understand what recycling is. Later in the term, we will explore Plants, learning to name the different parts of plants, observing changes in plants as they grow and to identify, compare and classify plants.

Knowledge of the World

This term, pupils will learn about Christianity, belonging and welcoming to a family. During the second half term they will be exploring Lent and Easter. Through stories, discussion and creative activities, children will discover the meanings behind festivals and traditions linked to these events.

French

Modern Foreign Languages are not taught in key stage 1.

Computing

This Spring term, we will introduce ourselves to Purple Mash. We will complete fun, interactive tasks to support this learning.

Art

This term, we will be exploring colour in arts and crafts. Our focus will be how primary and secondary colours are used in art, through creative hands-on activities.

History – Changes in Living History at School and at Home

In History this term, we will be looking at changes in living history both at home and at school, using chromebooks to look up information, and fun, hands-on activities.

Geography – Using Maps

In Geography this term, we will be learning about the United Kingdom through fun, hands-on activities.

Skills Curriculum

In the skills lessons, children will have the opportunity to develop practical and creative abilities, including cooking, arts and crafts, gardening, outdoor learning, health and fitness, and essential life skills for the community. For Key stage 1, these will be class based lessons.

Music

We have a dedicated music teacher, and our lesson is every Wednesday. This Term our focus is on developing foundational skills in pitch, pulse, and performance using the glockenspiel.

PSHE

In PSHE this term, we will be exploring feelings and emotions, as well as focusing on our behaviour curriculum to understand how our actions affect ourselves and others, and to develop positive social skills.
