We are very fortunate in Space hub to have adults skilled in delivering Interventions. All pupils in Space Hub access an Intervention. We currently offer:
- Forest School with Miss kat
- Lego therapy with Miss Gosnell
- Interoception with Miss Kimpton
- Cooking (we have our own kitchen) with Miss Tipping
The pupils also have access to the Interventions in the main school.
The ISS Library
In Space Hub we love to read! We even have a whole library to ourselves!!
Our books are proudly displayed on our library bookshelf.
We have a choice of texts which cover a range of genres, themes and characters. They include narrative, poetry and non-fiction texts, to ensure our children’s reading diet is widely varied.
The children have the offer of an adult reading to them daily.
The Zones
Space Hub has 2 zones – Star Side and Moon Side.
The pupils all have a zone of their own, they may share with a friend or be on their own. They have the opportunity to socially interact with others within their side. The zones are the pupils space, and they have full ownership of it. They bring in items from home such as blankets, beanbags, games and toys to completely make it their own space. It is a space they feel comfortable and can use when they feel they need time alone. The pupils have time in their zones daily.
Show and Tell
We will be having a weekly Show and tell session, this is on a Monday afternoon.
Skills
Each Thursday we will be running skills – this is a creative, skills based curriculum. We will off our pupils the chance to Cooking, learn life skills, use public transport, learn art skills, helping in the community and many more. Each week we will learning social skills and practice them.
Each week Mrs Kat will be running Forest school sessions, in Space Hub we are very fortunate to have our own Forest school expert and space!
Talk for Writing
Talk for Writing is a fun, engaging approach to developing children’s writing skills that was created by author Pie Corbett. Here’s what parents should know:
What is Talk for Writing?
It’s a method that helps children become better writers by first getting comfortable with stories and text types through speaking and acting them out before writing them down.
How does it work?
The approach follows three main stages:
- Imitation – Children learn stories and non-fiction texts by heart using actions, story maps, and repeated telling. This helps them internalize language patterns and vocabulary.
- Innovation – Children adapt the original text, changing elements while keeping the basic structure. For example, they might change characters or settings in a story.
- Independent Application – Children use what they’ve learned to create their own original pieces of writing.
Benefits for your child:
- Builds confidence through oral storytelling before writing.
- Develops vocabulary and language patterns naturally.
- Makes writing more enjoyable through physical actions and speaking.
- Creates a toolkit of writing techniques they can use independently.
- Improves memory and speaking skills alongside writing.
Talk for Writing makes the writing process more accessible and enjoyable, helping children become confident, creative writers who understand how different types of texts work.
We use Talk for Writing across the curriculum not just in English, we even use it in Maths!
Subject Areas
English
In English, we aim to inspire children to love writing and explore their creativity and imagination through a variety of different texts and writing formats! We will begin with narrative and poetry. We use Talk for Writing to support our teaching.
