Our Commitment to Equality at Larwood School

Our Equality Vision

At Larwood School, we believe in creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected. We strive to ensure our staff and pupil community reflects the diversity of society, with each individual feeling empowered to contribute fully and achieve their potential.
The Equality Act 2010 established a unified legal framework for protecting rights across various characteristics. This legislation replaced previous separate acts and created a comprehensive approach to equality.
Our equality scheme embraces all protected characteristics including race, disability, gender, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, and gender reassignment.

Meeting Our Legal Obligations

We actively fulfil our public sector equality duty through policies and practices that promote fairness and opportunity for all. While age is protected in employment contexts, this doesn’t apply to pupils in schools.
For further guidance on equality legislation in educational settings, the Department for Education provides resources at: www.gov.uk/government/publications/equality-act-2010- advice-for-schools.

Our Equality Objectives

Larwood School stands firmly against all forms of prejudice. We take a clear and consistent approach to ensure equality of opportunity throughout our community.
We are committed to providing education tailored to each pupil’s individual needs, regardless of their background or personal characteristics. Every pupil deserves access to educational opportunities appropriate to their abilities and potential.
We value diversity within our workforce, recognising that different perspectives and experiences strengthen our school. We maintain strong connections with parents and the wider community to support effective education for all.
