Our Local Offer – Stevenage

Achieve Believe Expect Enjoy

Our Local Offer

All the students at Larwood have been issued with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) by their local education authority. This is completed by parents or carers in conjunction with the student’s current educational setting alongside health professionals.

All parents are strongly advised to speak to their local SEN Officer to seek support for an educational health care plan and support for their child before seeking admission to Larwood School.

Our school offer comprises of the following features, which enable our community to achieve, believe, expect and enjoy:

  • All pupils have a statement or EHCP for social, emotional and behavioural needs
  • Pupils join Larwood after a provision panel has agreed their need and suitability for placement at Larwood School. Following this, an initial meeting is arranged for pupil and parents/carers, with a follow up meeting completed by a Larwood Family Support Worker. After this a program of entry is agreed
  • Some pupils may have additional identified needs in areas related to cognition and learning, physical disability and/or sensory needs.
  • Pupils with identified medical needs are supported on a day-to-day basis by our medical care team.
  • Our staff are trained to support students via the Therapeutic Thinking approach. This is a proactive behaviour management process that recognises how behaviour, feelings and experiences impact on well-being, with staff trained on how to respond respectfully and appropriately to keep everyone safe.
  • Well trained staff support students in small classes, with high levels of supervision at all points of the school day, including break times and lunchtimes.
  • External professionals are actively engaged in supporting strategic decision making, with alignment to local best practice and engagement in nationally recognised bodies such as the National Autism Society.
  • Careful guidance is put into place to support school transfer when leaving Larwood. Appropriate secondary school placements are considered with students and their families, ensuring that colleagues from the local authority can support families to highlight their preferred secondary school.
